This part of our website is designed to extend Spirit Ship from its running time of 17 minutes to a more all-encompassing experience for children all over the world. We at Little Creatures believe in the power of children's minds to author their own media, and we are captivated by the beauty of children's words when telling their own stories, or recreating stories they have seen in books and film. We want to provide a venue for children's original responses to Spirit Ship, but more than that, we want to open up the possibilities. What could come next? Where could our story lead a child in Brooklyn, Iceland, Mexico, Spain, Kenya, India? We really want to know. Spirit Ship itself is but a drop in the ocean of innovative live action film about and for young children: we are more interested in what children do with it, than what the film is in itself. In this section of our site we plan to exhibit the stories and pictures (drawn, still or moving) of children from all over the world. Children the world over do speak a common language through their play, stories and art, and they have much to teach us. We at Little Creatures are listening, and we know that the children's stories will complement each other in ways we cannot even imagine. To this end we are developing a portal that will be able to receive and display photos, drawings, written stories and videos inspired by or made in response to Spirit Ship.

As a start, here is a gallery of images from our fundraiser on the Waterfront Barge/Museum in Red Hook (the neighborhood where the film was shot in 2008), in the Summer of 2010.

(video coming soon)

We will be posting more content from our Spirit Ship kids and other children who have viewed and responded to the film, in the months to come. Until our website is ready to receive submissions, we would love to receive stories and images over email, in this format: Please include stories in the body of the email, and upload images to Flickr, Picasa or your own server, and videos to Youtube or Vimeo, and send us the links to these, rather than sending us JPG or MOV attachments. Thank you! and we look forward to continuing the conversation . . .
